ChloeChloe (Aria) choose me and I chose her and I adopted Chloe three months ago. Chloe is a wonderful part of my family. She has adapted very well. She loves to play and is friendly to everyone who visits. She loves to lay on my lap and likes getting combed. When I come home from work, she comes to greet me at the door with a meow and wants to play and be petted. She likes to sit on the table in the living room and look out the window. Chloe is a lot of fun and adds much enjoyment to my life. I am thankful for the Independent Cat Society and being able to adopt Chloe. - Ann |

| Sammy and Callie (aka Georgie and Darla)Our two cats will be celebrating their first anniversary as members of our family on October 14. We adopted Sammy and Callie (aka Georgie and Darla) last year from the Independent Cat Society and now cannot imagine life without them. Last August, I lost my precious cat Felicia to mammary cancer. I had adopted Felicia from ICS in August of 1997 when she was five years old. She was my friend and companion for nine wonderful years. After her death my mom and I decided to return to ICS and adopt two kittens. Sammy and Callie entered our home on the morning of Saturday, October 14 as two strangers, both to us and to each other. Within a few days they were great pals and had adapted to their new surroundings as though they had been there from the beginning. Sammy is a real character; full of mischief, but a good boy at heart and lots of fun to have around. He is the undisputed king as he is the only male on the premises. Callie is sweet and shy, but does a great job of keeping up with her more rowdy housemate. They genuinely care about each other. They love to chase each other, ambush each other and curl up and sleep with each other. They are both loving pets, enjoy cuddling (when they want to, of course) and love to sit in the window together and watch the birds at our backyard feeders. They have a basket full of toys and their favorite seems to be those little furry mice. They are our babies and have given much more to my mom and me than they ever take. We love them both and look forward to these ever growing relationships for many, many years to come! - Kathie Anderson, Valparaiso, IN |
PierreI adopted Pierre from The Independent Cat Society in 2002. Pierre was found as a tiny 4-week-old stray kitten with severe eye infections, a bad cold and he was near death. I was working at ICS as a medicator so I offered to become his "foster mom" and took him home for special care and treatment. At first, we weren't sure if he would ever be able to see or not, his eyes were that badly infected. But, after specialized treatment and a little time, his eyes finally healed. I adopted him not too long after that and he has had a loving and happy home ever since. His health continues to be good and he is the "top cat" or "alpha cat" in our house. This handsome guy taught me to never give up hope on any sick animals we rescue. The love I have given him and received back has been priceless.

Claude"Happy, healthy, and affectionate, Claude is our shadow, always following us from room to room. He no longer sucks on necklaces, but he does continue to rub our faces with the corner of his lips. Claude always sleeps with us and often wants to crawl under the covers. Fond of heat, he'll often sit under my desk lamp when I'm grading essays. As I write this, he's sitting next to me under his heat lamp."

 | Freddy, Clyde, Karl, & Sassy"This adoption has worked out great for all of us. I gave my four boys a home where they are cared for and cherished for who they are. These four brothers are able to stay together. They got me through a bad time as I mourned a loss. We share our lives as a family."

Marlow"Marlow chose me when I visited ICS to adopt a cat in early May 2003. He impressed me with his friendly personality and winning charm immediately, and he continues to be the greatest buddy. We watch TV, play ball, read, surf the internet, take naps and almost everything else together- Marlow insists that he is included. He loves to scratch and climb his sisal scratching post, meet new people and visit with old friends, watch the animals and people of my neighborhood, and, of course, play. Shoestrings, sponge balls, laser critterbug, paper bags, cat toys. He loves them all. When he wants rest, just petting him makes the world go away. I’m extremely grateful for his friendship. Thank you so much."

Baby and Alexa"I wanted to take Baby home from the shelter the moment I saw the black kitten's orange eyes and fluffy tail. I spent hours with him on many Saturdays playing with the Cat Dancer toy and the laser light. When we were able to take him home, we decided we'd like two cats this time to keep each other company when we weren't home. I thought I wanted another male, but after weeks of searching couldn't come up with another cat that I thought wouldn't dominate my scaredy cat Baby. In desperation, I finally just told the medicators to see whom he slept with and I'd take that cat. Luckily for us all, that night he slept with Alexa, a beautiful silver tabby who had been at the shelter for some time as she never approached potential adopters. We couldn't have made a better choice had we searched any longer. Alexa immediately made herself at home -- on laps, beds and chairs. When Gary had heart surgery three months after the kitties came home with us, she slept on his lap in the LazyBoy chair until he was able to climb stairs again. Baby, being much bigger, kept watch from under the footrest. Alexa takes care of 'the Baby' too. Whenever we clip his nails and he's meowing piteously, she'll come running from another room, put her arm around his neck and lick his head until the clipping is over. I wonder how many other 'perfect' cats are overlooked at the shelter because they aren't so visible?" - Beverly, Valparaiso, IN |
